Early works is underway for Visy’s new $500 million glass recycling and manufacturing facility at Stapylton on Queensland’s Gold Coast.
Once completed, the new Stapylton facility will have capacity to produce one billion containers each year using recycled glass. The recycling facility is expected to increase the amount of glass Queensland can recycle by up to 60,000 tonnes a year and divert up to an additional 40,000 tonnes of glass out of landfill.
This increase in recycled glass packaging produced will lead to an overall reduction in glass waste in landfill and glass-producing emissions in Queensland, contributing to our goal for a cleaner future.
During construction the project will support over 600 Queensland jobs, with a further 200 ongoing jobs to be transferred from their former West End facility.
Once the Stapylton facility is completed, the site of their West End facility will be converted by the Queensland Government into the International Broadcast Centre for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This is all part of a $700 million partnership between the Queensland Government and Visy which also includes a new corrugated box factory in Hemmant and major upgrades to their Material Recovery Facility on Gibson Island.
