Alliance Airlines’ has opened its new $60 million aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) facility in Rockhampton, thanks to Queensland Government support.
Located at the Rockhampton Airport, the new facility will allow Alliance to reshore its MRO activities from overseas to Queensland.
With Alliance’s growing fleet of aircraft, almost 100 highly skilled operational jobs will be created at the facility. There will also be at least 16 local traineeships and apprenticeships offered, creating new career paths for young Central Queenslanders.
Performing all the base maintenance for its aircraft in-house will give Alliance greater control over its fleet and will be more cost effective, saving the company around $20 million per year.
Reshoring the maintenance will increase supply chain opportunities for local companies covering everything from avionics through to cabin accessories. There is also potential for other aviation service providers to co-locate to the Rockhampton Airport.
The project stands to boost the state economy by $195 million over the next decade and consolidate Queensland’s reputation as a destination of choice for the multi-billion-dollar global MRO industry.
With support from the Australian Government and Rockhampton Regional Council, the project is a great example of how all three levels of government can work together with the private sector to deliver impactful infrastructure.
